The safest place to be protected from the virus all over the US!
Point Roberts is a pastoral border town most of the year that serves as an important transit point between the U.S. and Canada.
While many of us leave the big cities and find ourselves in rural communities trying to be as far away from the corona as possible, one question remains that nestles in the minds of many: What is the safest place to stay in the US during the plague?
The Joshua Terry Desert in Southern California, the bunkers of Colorado, are indeed prime candidates but it seems that they could have added a tiny peninsula located in U.S. territory but geographically linked to Canada.
Point Roberts, located at the southernmost tip of the Tavasin Peninsula south of Vancouver, has a population of close to 1,300 people, and is one of the few areas in the U.S. that has not found itself infected with the virus.
"This is probably the safest place in the country," said Pamela Shepherd, 65, who has lived on the peninsula for the past 31 years. The town has been particularly isolated since Canada and the United States agreed to stop crossings between countries for any unnecessary traffic. "Because the borders are sealed, we are like an island without ships."
The new isolation also had an economic impact, according to the head of the fire brigade in the town.
Most of the residents are in their homes, and there is a collective decision that we are not going to places where we can bring the virus, as the town is full of elderly people and does not have the medical infrastructure to stop the spread.
Theresa Coe, 57, who works at Point Roberta's marina, said the area is a ghost town right now and that "it's probably the safest place in all of North America; certainly within the U.S."
