crazy! A court in New York has ordered the removal of a 20-story skyscraper in the city! SJ Development Company…
A New York court has ruled against a development company behind a high-rise building on Amsterdam Avenue in the city, and ordered the company to remove the top 20 floors of the building.
According to the lawsuit filed, the development company SJP ignored the building codes and took advantage of a loophole in the law to build the 52-story building that rises to a height of 670 feet (c. 200 m). Apparently, the company has found a way to combine the construction plans and approvals of four projects, and use them on only one structure.
The decision is a major blow to SJP, as the building's top floors are the largest and most expensive housing units, including a penthouse that was to be sold for $ 21 million. In addition, the costs of removing 20 floors from the building are likely to make the project unprofitable.
