Fearing the lives of a Southern California couple who have disappeared, the couple from Garden Grove traveled to cash checks they received as rent for properties in Mexico, law enforcement agencies in the two states are investigating the case together, and apparently the two never returned to the US.
70-year-old Jesus Lopez and his 65-year-old wife Maria drove their car to Tijuana for properties and were supposed to return home that same day. When she realized they had not returned from the country, their daughter reported them missing. With the help of the Find My Phone app, their daughter realized that the couple had arrived at one of the properties, and she asked a relative who lives in the city to go there and check. However, even after arriving at the scene, no trace of the couple was found, and later the phone stopped transmitting its location.

At that point, police entered the scene and her people were able to locate the couple's vehicle a few blocks from the property in question. A message was given to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Federal Police of Mexico investigating the disappearance case in parallel with the local police.
According to relatives, the couple planned to go to a local bank in Tijuana to cash the checks, as the payment was received in Mexican pesos. They then planned to convert the money into dollars and return to Southern California. Investigators are now trying to figure out if the two arrived at the bank or the place where they planned to make the money conversion.

Since the couple are also U.S. citizens, the State Department in Washington is trying to help locate them. The Garden Grove police, where they were reported missing, said yesterday that "there is no documentation proving they returned to the U.S., so it is speculated they are still in Mexico."
