Old post, but suitable for season:
For lovers of the Hebrew language: On the occasion of Chanukah, here's a nice novelty of the holiday season
Chanukah is almost the only time there is a custom associated with money - giving Chanukah fees.
We cannot imagine a world without money, but so many years ago life went on:
In a money-free world, how could you buy a hoe?
Through "barter". That is: a chicken for 50 eggs, a camel for 20 sheep, etc.…
This created major problems for 2:
One is an estimation problem. How much is a camel worth? How much is a sack of flour worth?
The second - the presence of multiple goods in one place.
So, they had to find a solution to the problem: how?
Take metals, melt them, and make pieces of them.
These pieces are called greed, and in singular - greed!
Hence the phrases: "make money", "follow greed".
In order to keep those gags, a wallet was needed. But what to do when there is no wallet?
Put the seeds in an animal's horn.
Hence the expressions: savings fund, pension fund, higher education fund…
Anyone who wasn't particularly smart puts his money in the deer horn which is hollow and open on both sides.
Hence the phrase: "Put his money on the deer horn…"
Whoever had a lot of money needed big horns to store all the money in the content. So use ram's horns called 'flies'.
Hence the phrase - "fortune"!
So far an anecdote for lovers of the Hebrew language: "Capital and language…"
Have a Merry Christmas .. Good health, plenty of fulfilling light, and plenty of currencies and coins.
Lovely thank you. Can we move on?
